Speaker Tom Craddick announced committee assignments this Saturday, when the House was not in session. The big question prior to the announcements was if Speaker Craddick would retaliate against those who stood against him in the race for Speaker of the House.
Rep. Jim Pitts, who challenged Speaker Craddick for the position, said he felt that there was retaliation, since he was not even appointed to the Appropriations Committee, which he chaired last session.
I had requested to serve on the Civil Practices Committee, which oversees all matters of civil law and upon which I served last session. And I am happy to report that I received that appointment. I also was appointed to the The Defense Affairs & State-Federal Relations committee, allows me to work with the Department of Homeland Security to secure our border, and also to ensure that our veterans are treated fairly and with the respect they deserve.
